On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a
gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend,
a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart
of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the
course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre
Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH
in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly
hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.

Upon showing the film in public for the first time, Lelouch was arrested. He

has never revealed the identity of the driver, and the film went underground

until a DVD release a few years ago

Ok I admit it, I was the driver. headbang.gif laugh.gif

Man that was crazy. Very impressive driving, I wouldn't have thought a Frenchman could have that much aggression in him. But I don't condone the running red lights where you can't clearly see the street you are approaching. He should have been arrested for that, I don't blame them, just blind luck to get through that, nothing to do with driving skill. A few more minutes of that and someoe would have got killed.

Entertaining video though, car sounds great and acceleration impressive, especially considering the car couldn't have been later than a '78 model.

Paris must be a big place, the streets were very nice, most of them wide and smooth.

call me what you want, but those sounds are totally fake bs.gif. Just look at some of the turns, there is alot of fake tire screeching, and the car isint going that fast. Listen at 1:25 to 1:29

Repost but still good. There is a lot of "mystery" with this film bit for all intents and purposes the same DID happen drivings.gif

Good video and great driving but I think it was stepped up just a tad! My wife and I have pretty much covered most of Paris on foot. We are big on the walking thing when we are on vacations. The distance from the Arch to the Louvre is not as far as you would think and it took him quite a long time to cover that distance so he was not that fast down through that section. Coming up to the Arch, the turn is sharper, and the road more narrow through there as well as it is paved in brick as is a lot of the turns.

I think the location of the camera gave the illusion of more speed than what was actual. NOT sayin he wasn't going fast as for the streets of Paris he was.

And no the streets are not that great, no better than the streets of any of our cities. That was probably shot on a Sunday morning. Downtown Paris can be pretty empty on weekends, but during the week for-getta-bout-it.
