Don't be lulled into a false sense of security when running a Ford GT... There has been videos posted on the internet of a stock C6Z06 beating a stock GT. Well after my run in with a 300 mile stock GT, those owners must have been some nondriving yuppies.

Put a good driver in a GT and he will smoke you as I find out the hard way dammit. huh.gif Turns out this guy owns a 9 second viper too..

Damn man that sucks. The guy down the street has a GT and Cobra with about 800hp. The Cobra is the wifes car. wacko.gif

I've been banished to only reading about the Ford GT's in the mag rags. I went back about 6mos into my old Car & Driver mags and found that the Ford GT ran an easy 11.8 at over 120mph in the qtr. That's seriously rocking out considering that most journalists can't drive worth a damn. And, they do "lift throttle' shifts.

We got killed by a GT40 in the recent One Lap of America too. That car made an honest 620+ HP and TQ to the wheels! weirdsmiley.gif The guy brought his dyno sheet along to let us know that he meant business. Man did we get an azz whoopin by that guy. He had a smaller pulley, throttle body, and remapped the fuel system for mega output. That car was so insanely loud it was always the loudest car on the track and could be heard from the furthest point on the track over every other car. It was insane!

So, in other words, I know ezzactly where you're coming from! blush.gif

Who wears the pants then? Is he a girlie mon?

Yea, i was expecting to beat him, because he even admitted he believed the Z06 felt faster.. The first race we did a 50-55 roll and he pretty much instantly put a car on me. It didn't help matters that I was at like 4 grand and when I hit it, i was spinning all the way to redline with the car getting a little squirrly.

2nd race was like a 30 roll, about the same result... Lost the race by 1.5-2 cars..

There is no shame in loosing to a GT. Stout cars to say the least.

I have seen two Ford Gt's that were stock dyno at close to 465rwhp. Since most stock Z's only dyno about 425 you are working at a disadvantage. Just a pulley change will put them over 500rwhp. I busted one on a rolling run of about 40 to 125 and pulled him by three to four cars but I am working with more than he had. They are sharp looking cars that are to be respected. They do drop off power in the higher rpm zone and seem to be a little weak in the lower rpms but are very stout in the mid range.
Props to you for being a stand up guy and admitting you can get beat. Some of the new Z06 owners don't seem to think anything can top them.

Do I need to come over and install a blown big block in that Z06 of yours? I have a cutting torch and a welder... Or I guess you could go to Lingenfelter for a couple turbos. I love spanking cocky owners of exotics with my old sleeper C4.

ive seen with my own 2 eyes stock c6 zo6's make 450-460rwhp bone stock and ive also seen many video of the ford gt vs. c6zo6 run neck and neck. i guess it just depends on the driver. here is a video of a c6zo6 with just an intake and tune vs a stock ford gt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09dKFdrEBKw

that is a oldie allright. after getting spank, I tend to believe the driver in that GT couldn't drive worth shit

Or the guy you raced wasnt 100% honest about his car being totally stock. It's just too easy to swap a pulley and get a few more lbs of boost on those cars (as well as the 03/04 SC Cobra's)

That is two of the strongest "Z" cars on earth. dry.gif If you read what the top tuners(Katech, MTI Racing, LPE etc) are getting on stock "Z's" you will see they all dyno in the 425 range. Make sure what you see is SAE numbers and not "dyno queen" numbers by a less than reputable tuner.

I dont know what z06 you saw. dry.gif GM's website states that the driveline is so unique on the zo6 that it only loses 10-11% horsepower through the driveline. So take 505hp minus 11% and you get around 450ish rwhp. Even horespower enginneering shows a bone stock zo6 make 454rwhp. wink.gif

I know you probably have no idea who Katech or LPE are but perhaps you have heard of Callaway. Look on their web site and read what they see on a stock dyno for the Z06. I guess GM perhaps was a little optimistic on an 11% parasitic loss through the drive line. By the way, I would love to hear what is so Unique about the driveline, as a matter of fact so would my neighbor who is a retired GM engineer who really got a big laugh out of that one.

oooooooooh wow I just got back from a performance shop out of town (bowtieperformance) and they had a bone stock regular C6 and it dynoed at 351rwhp with the stock air filter. So what does that leave us with folks? Thats a 12% horsepower loss through the driveline. Give that same ratio to the Zo6 and we get a low 445rwhp. Why dont you show me a video of a c6zo6 on the dyno making a BS 425rwhp. tongue.gif

Considering that these cars are supposed to be in the same class of sports cars, I guess it's ok in this case, to bring up the price difference per performance between these two. A purpose built Z06, light weight construction, all motor performance for $75,000, vs a purpose built but discountinued Ford GT! A heavier car necessitating a power adder to be competative against your Z06 because bottomline, the Z06 is the bench mark for all performance cars in it's class. For the record, this could only be accomplished at the price tag of $150,000!!!! If you look at it that way, you pretty much win against any car in your class that you come up against. Even against your closests competitor, the Dodge Viper. You've proven that you have the better sports car, simply by beating it in overall performance, price, and with 2 less cylinders!

Did I actually write this? I'm not feeling well, I have to go lay down... sicksmiley02.gif

Actually, a win is a win. Lets not start bringing up what the car cost or weigh or any other excuse. If you get beat be a MAN about it and accept it. It will happen to all of us and is nothing to be ashamed of. The "Z" is a fine car but it can be beat as can the Ford GT, a Formula one race car or anything else for that matter. wink.gif

Yeah I hate when I beat someone and they always use some stupid excuse or my favorite is "YOU HAVE A V8 AND I ONLY HAVE A 4BANGER"

In black and white, you are absolutely correct. 10 times out of 10, you wouldn't get any arguement from me on that. I just thought since these two cars are competitors in the same market, that my comment on price vs performance had alteast alittle bit of legitimacy, to atleast put a smile on my mans face when he realizes that the owner of the Ford GT had to dig through his sofas for the additional 75 grand he needed to put only 1.5-2 car lengths on him. I don't know about anyone else in here but if I was the Z owner, I would have lost that race with the biggest smile on my face. Let me put it to you this way then.... For 150 grand, that Ford GT BETTER had whooped that Z's ass to atleast justify it's cost. Even then, stock vs stock, The Ford GT needed the cost of two Z06's, just to put 1.5-2 car lengths on him? So realistically, where's the justification in that? No wonder the Ford GT's discontinued. And guess what? GM is already testing it's new Blue Devil Vette that's expected to put out 650hp, along with a host of other upgrades and are still doing it for 50,000 less then the cost of the Ford GT, IF it were still in production. GM is putting the final touches on a car that will pretty much be impossible to match in it's class by any other major auto maker, performance wise and at that price. The only thing that could possibly make this car a failure, is if it turns out to be a lemon. This car will probably put the specialty vehicle tuners out of business!!! LOL Shit, GM might just put an end to the horsepower wars in it's class with this Blue Devil! But you're right, a loss is a loss no matter how you put it or who's racing, regardless of price. pint.gif

I certainly understand what you are saying. For the money the "Z" is an awesome bargin if your in the market for a fast sports car.
I just get a little irritated when I see all these "Z" lovers question that anything can beat the new Z06 and if it is somehow proven that the "Z" was beaten then they move right on to "Well that car cost x dollars more or that car has ten cylinders, etc.
Don't be too hasty about crowning the "blue devil" or whatever they plan to call it, as the ultimate in power. Some of us with little ole C5's still got that number beat! biggrin.gif

I'm sure there's a 1982 Toyota Corolla out there that's got that number beat. tongue.gif I was speaking more along the lines of a "Off the showroom floor" production vehicle, with the quality and specs of the current Z06 or upcoming Blue Devil, being matched by any other major auto maker, in the catigory of price vs performance. I think so far, GM cannot be touched in this catigory. I'm sure you would think, with the way I've been speaking that I'm a GM fan! tongue.gif I'm actually Blue Oval thru and thru. I just recognize a winner when I believe I see one. It pisses me off that Ford can't figure out how to match GM is some catigories. Why can't they produce a lightweight Ford GT, with competative or better performance figures, that's dead on or better competatively with GM's pricing? Why the hell can't they build a freaking Mustang with their current power ratings, on a car that ways 3200lbs or less, for a price range of 25K-35K? Ford pisses me off big time with these questions. Are their salaries that over inflated that they can't afford to or are the cost for the materials and technology that much more expensive for Ford to attain to build it?

I kind of look at Ford as more the everyday man's car. Don't be too tough on Ford. For a little over three grand you can take a Cobra (mustang) to well over 500 rwhp. You can't do that with a GM product. Ford does make a Ford GT-X that puts out over 700 horsepower but I don't know if they will ever sell it on the open market. It was test driven on some British car show, forgot the name, but you can see the test on you tube. That thing would simply blow away about anything being sold, yes the Z06 would have no chance at all.
Relatively speaking, it would be priced much lower than some of the other "ultra super cars" out there, if it ever comes to market. I am concerned that the day of the high horsepower super cars is going to die with the ever increasing gas prices. The unstability in the Middle East may eventually drive the entire automobile market into low horsepower vehicles that get great gas milage. Remember the late 70's early 80's when the vette put out a whopping 225 horsepower? Those days may be approaching again. sad.gif

Any given day depends on traction and driver… Driver does make a diff if you’re spinning your not moving. I’ve got caught up with traction issues and when I can control the power usually win… but still Stock HP 505 vs. 550 big diff…

I beat a Ford GT by pushing him around the track then final taking him in the main straight, we both were on slicks… but then again I am not stock nor do I have a C6 Z06 so Ill shut up.. LOL…

Both cars are sick… Add some mods and they are even better…
