CorvetteKillStories > KILL STORIES ON VIDEO! > Corvette Street Racing Videos!
Dirty Howie
Sorry for the last thread where the vids did not work. Got that all figured out. So here are some vids from a recent canyon run. Four Vettes ..... two of them SC 700+ RWHP cars. I will post links as I get them uploaded.

This is my first video setup and first vids from it. So any comments on focus, zoom etc will be appreciated. Also any input as to content will be helpful. Keep in mind that the file size will be 100-150 MB as they are in widescreen format so they may take a while to load.

Thanks, again David!

This one is passing some bikers and gettting flipped off by the last one!!!

Welcome to kill stories. Nice vids but they do take a bit to load. Your car sounds strong. I gona have to put mine away for the winter. From the looks of it that’s not a issue for you so enjoy.

Thanks Kevin

The smallest one is 100megs so that may be larger than the typical uploaded file (the widescreen format at 30fps makes them big).

I'm uploading another right now that is over 400 megs ..... get a faster internet connection wink.gif

Yes sunny SoCal !!!!

Those are pretty big, about three minute load for me. Good quality though.

Nice cars. I did not understand what the biker was upset about.

For some reason most bikers will NOT just move to the outside of the lane so we can squeeze by them. Instead you will see them hug the inside or ride two abreast. And THEN flip you off for not wanting to tool behind their loud exhausts. bs.gif

Can someone with a PC and IE confirm that these vid links are working.

A buddy said they wouldn't load for him.

I tried it on an office PC and also would not load for me.

Works great on my MAC tongue.gif

It works fine on with XP and Firefox. Also works with IE, although IE does not do as much as FireFox to let you know it is loading a video. You get a blank IE page for several minutes, then sudeenly it starts playing the video. This is with a 3MB cable broadband.

Hey! I've been doing good! pint.gif Your videos look great. hail.gif I have IE and the videos load up with no problem. 6 to 8 MBPS on my cable modem. specool.gif

Thanks....that explains it. I hate IE. I use Firefox on my MAC and PC when available........

I will let my buddy know to get Firefox!!!

I can't even see yours. Can't get quicktime to function at work here and the internet connection is worse than the wireless I steal from my neighbor. I'll give you some criticism when I get home, it's what I do best. In the meantime I guess I'll have to do my job or something :(

Mine was more shaky than I'd like but it does help give a sense of speed. Lower speed testing on smooth roads it worked great. The camera mount is loose and lets the camera move and absorb impact. A rigid mount shook the piss out of the lens and was unwatchable.

You tried with FireFox, right??

Anyways your criticism is welcome.......I thought my video came out pretty good considering paved canyons are not as smooth as the track!

I would set it on manual focus, sometimes it focuses on the reflection in the windshield. The sound is messed up because of the camera shaking internally because the mount is either not stiff enough or more likely too stiff. Looks great otherwise, and the resolution looks legit to me.

If you can't get around the sound issue you could always record with a seperate thing, mute the camera, then dub it over on your computer. Your filesize is nuts though at 12 mbps. I save mine at 2 mbps for high quality on the computer but only use about 0.7 mbps for upload. See if there's options on your mac for compressing the file.

Now the really important test is set your camera up, and pretend you're stuck in the pits at the track for a few minutes waiting to race and you've got your gloves and helmet on. Now the camera will go into it's standby thing or whatever but make sure you can get it to turn on and be sure it's recording from your seat. I had this problem with mine and missed two runs because I had no idea if the camera was starting or stopping. I was trying to avoid recording a bunch of dead space because I didn't want the memory card to run out partway through the run.

My camera is actually shaking a bunch on the straightaway because of the wind. It's that loose. When i made the mount rigid it would just vibrate violently over every bump.

Okay.....

I don't know how to manual focus...instructions say push record button slowly to focus and further to start recording?? I am focusing using the zoom. I do think I need to focus further out in front of the car.

I hear you on the issue of knowing if you are recording. I have to get out of the car and focus with the hatchback up. I can tell the camera is on by seeing if the lens is extended. You cannot tell if its recording. But the canyon run was my testing ground as to wether I could record when I wanted. Glove has to be off to push the little record button.

I have some tape over the mic. Maybe I should try foam. I definatley am not getting involved with other sound inputs.

I don't know how to purposefully downgrading the video quality. Would this be done in QuickTime. Can you download one of mine, then downgrade the video and then upload it to see the difference.......or do you have a life and something better to do willy_nilly.gif

I can't mess with any of your mac videos on my pc. But I assume the camera records in avi format. If you upload a short clip in avi I can compress it easily.

Beyond that, for the manual focus, and video editing on the mac, I'm afraid you'll just have to RTFM. On mine I set it into video mode then I set the focus and ISO manually every time. ISO basically controls the brightness and you will probably need manual ISO if it's really sunny so it doesn't make everything outside blinding bright when the lens is trying to "see" the dark car interior. If your camera has the ability to do spot focus or spot ISO, definitely use that, and make sure that "spot" is right in the middle of your windshield. As for having something better to do, that's debatable. cartman.gif

Spot Focus.......that is what I believe I am using!!!!

I don't know if I have a choice of formats on this camera. Will have to check. Definately the default was QT.

So did you view any of them??

I am messing around to try and make smaller sized vids.

Would some please confirm that this file is viewable. And comment on the quality....its not going to be as good as the above vids but it is only 20% the size.

It loaded, but then when it should have started playing, instead a question mark came up in the middle of the quicktime Q symbol. Never seen that before, not sure what it means.
